    Welcome to the forum weeyin

I started doing my family tree a few weeks ago, but so far I am barely out of the 20th century let alone back to the 1500s! I guess I better make a start at it again

Anyway, Fife is a great place to be from, but most of my ancestors seem to have moved there from elsewhere... its only my mum and her sisters (as well as me, my brothers, sister and our cousins) that seem to have been born in Fife!

Now i have got back to the early 1500's anyone need help on names or associates of Warrender and Doig, drop me a line and i will be glad to help if i can, I have nearly 1000 names on my tree, loads of branches. Me, i was born in Kirkcaldy, Mother is a Mcdonald, ancestors from Fife and Perthshire area {)
    1500's!!!

Christ Val, I'm scared of what I'd find in the early 20th century without going that far back!!

For those that are thinking about doing it or have just started, are you doing it with specialist software or through some other method? Would be good info for others so they know where to look/get started themselves!

Well going back proved a lot of things, it is hardly surprising they wont commit me if they done it with past family members lol

I started off with 4 names on a bit of paper, curiosity got me going lol, I used loads of different sites but the best one i found for help was www.genesreunited.com. I also used www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk .. mainly for verification. Will get the names together of the sites i have used and list them. You can also go to your local registry office as well which i only just found out lmao. The software i use is Family Tree Finder 10 .. have used other programs in the past but found this one to be the better one.

If you get the right site, doing your tree to start with will cost buttons if anything, About the total i have paid out in the past 5 yrs is roughly only about £80 and £22 of that was for my grandads death certificate.

    hi Bruce

    Thanx for the welcome,

One thing i will say, if you get tied with it and it gets frustrating, walk away from it then go back a couple of weeks or whatever later. That is what i done, i found nothing got fed up with it, left it for 2 yrs lol, and bang all this info just appeared

Most of my family were born in Fife, a lot still live there yet, mainly now around the Glenrothes/Kirkcaldy sort of area.

If you need any help, just holler and if i can i shall

    Val

The problem I am having just now is getting started... not due to a lack of information (my dad had details going back to his own dad's parents who were both born in 1862; my cousin is tracing my mum's side of the tree so I don't need to do too much there!) The problem I have just now is a lack of time due to everything else I am supposed to be doing :faf:
